WELCOME NEW
MEMBER
TO THE 9-HOLE GOLF LEAGUE OF
OLYMPIA FIELDS COUNTRY CLUB
This
information has been prepared to help you become familiar with the League.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask any League Board or
Committee Member.
We
are glad that you have decided to join us for golf on Tuesday mornings!
Relax and enjoy yourself! Remember that we were all new members once,
therefore, we understand!
Following is some information that will be helpful for you to know as you
begin League play. Essential information is also printed in the front of
your Event Calendar. Please take time to review it.
Lockers
It is
required that you have a locker or share one with another member. See the
Locker Room Attendant for assignment of a locker.
Opening
Luncheon or Brunch
At
this event, which officially opens the 9-Hole golf season, you will be given
an Event Calendar. It lists all of the events for the current season, as
well as useful information about golf rules, events and etiquette.
Establishing a Handicap
A
handicap is a method of evening out the field for competition among
players from all levels of playing ability. It is required that every League
golfer establish a handicap. After you post scores for five 9-hole games,
you will be assigned a “temporary” handicap. Any of the members or anyone in
the Pro shop can quickly show you how to post a score to the handicap system
using the computer in the locker room. To qualify for weekly event points,
a handicap is necessary. After posting 10 scores, your official handicap
will be established. You can access your current handicap at any time using
the computer. There is also a notebook kept in the locker room with
handicaps for all members of the League. Handicaps are recalculated once a
week.
Signing Up to Play Golf
Unless
otherwise stated, we normally play as twosomes. Sign up sheets for each play
day are posted on the bulletin board in the ladies locker room up to a month
in advance. Tee times will be listed for the front and back nine. Decide
what time you would like to play and which nine holes. Print your name on
the appropriate page, next to the time you want. If you have a partner,
print her name next to yours. If you do not have a partner, print “NEED
PARTNER” in the space next to your name.
If
the day is designated as a “Shotgun,” everyone will begin playing at the
same time, with each group starting on a different hole. The partners will
be assigned by the Pro-Liaison. You will find out whom you are playing with
when you arrive for the event. You still need to sign up for the event so
that the Pro Shop will know how many golfers are playing and develop a play
sheet for the day.
If you
CANNOT make a scheduled tee time, notify the locker room that you will be
absent or delayed. Call (708)798-0495 and ask for the locker room.
Playing
Golf
Many
play days a hostess will be present in the locker room to assist you and
answer any questions you may have. Check in with the hostess or locker room
attendant at least 15 minutes before your tee time. If you have not signed
up with a partner, the hostess will assist in pairing you up with another
member. We play in twosomes. If there is an odd number of players, a
threesome may go off, but only as the last group of the day.
If you
are LATE for your tee time, the hostess will work with the Starter to
determine when there is an opening for you to tee off.
IT IS
VERY IMPORTANT TO KEEP PLAY MOVING AT ALL TIMES. KNOW WHEN IT IS YOUR TURN,
WHERE YOUR BALL IS, AND BE READY TO HIT YOUR BALL! NO MORE THAN TEN SHOTS
ARE ALLOWED ON A HOLE. WHEN YOU HAVE HAD TEN SHOTS, PICK UP YOUR BALL AND GO
ON TO THE NEXT HOLE.
If you
do not complete a hole, you will not be eligible for the day’s event points.
You will, however, receive attendance points for the day. If you are playing
the South Course back nine, YOU MUST HIT OVER THE WATER ON HOLE #14 BE
ELIGIBLE TO WIN THE DAY’S EVENT POINTS.
Immediately After Finishing Play
Complete the scorecard in the appropriate manner (detailed in the Event
Calendar) and turn it in to the Starter or Pro-Liaison. This must be done
before any other activity, such as lunch, is begun.
As
soon as possible after play, post your score on the handicap system using
the computer in the locker room. You may rely on your partner to turn in the
scorecard; however, it is each player’s responsibility to insure that the
scorecard is completed correctly, the score is posted properly and that
the signed scorecard is turned in.
Earning Points
Points
are received for playing and for winning events. See the Events Calendar
for specific information on how points are awarded. The number of points
accumulated determines the prize you will receive at the end of the golf
season.
Have Fun!!!!
Our
primary goal is to have fun and enjoy our beautiful courses. Following these
procedures will facilitate enjoyment for the whole League and make it easier
for the committee and the Pro-Liaison to do the best job for everyone.
